The first entirely Canadian-made electric vehicle, dubbed Project Arrow, is set to be developed in Thorold, Ontario. This groundbreaking initiative aims to showcase Canada’s prowess in the clean automotive technology sector.

Project Arrow is spearheaded by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA) and represents a collaborative effort to design, engineer, and build a fully Canadian electric vehicle. The project was first announced in 2020 and has since gathered significant attention for its ambition to integrate and highlight Canadian automotive technology and innovation.

The vehicle’s development will take place in Thorold’s new automotive facility, which was chosen due to its strategic location and the benefits it offers in terms of logistics and access to necessary infrastructure. The initiative not only emphasizes innovation but also aims to boost the local economy by creating job opportunities and fostering technological advancement.

This project is significant in that it involves collaboration among various Canadian suppliers and technology companies, whose contributions will be pivotal in bringing the conceptual designs to life. By leveraging Canadian expertise and resources, Project Arrow aims to produce a zero-emission vehicle that is competitive on a global scale.

Educational institutions like the University of Waterloo, the University of Toronto, and McMaster University are actively involved, providing research support and innovation to ensure the vehicle meets high standards of sustainability and efficiency.

As Project Arrow progresses, it will likely become a cornerstone of Canada’s commitment to sustainable automotive technology and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative not only highlights the capabilities of Canada’s auto industry but also aligns with global environmental goals and the shift towards greener, more sustainable technology.
