Richmond Hill, ON. BMW Group Canada today announced
a major expansion of public charging access and simplicity for BMW and
MINI electric vehicle drivers, unveiling the availability of Shell
Recharge within the My BMW and MINI apps across Canada, alongside
compatibility and availability of charging on the North American
Charging Standard (NACS) Tesla Supercharger network. Together, these
enhancements dramatically improve day-to-day convenience, streamline
trip planning and payment, and leverage North America’s most extensive
fast-charging infrastructure – reflecting BMW’s commitment to making
EV ownership as effortless as possible.
One account, more stations, simpler charging.
Shell Recharge is now integrated into the My BMW and MINI apps,
aggregating many of Canada’s leading Charge Point Operators (CPOs)
under a single account. With Shell Recharge, drivers can locate,
activate, stop, and pay for charging sessions right in the app – no
juggling multiple cards or apps. As of March 2026, Shell Recharge
supports charging with major Canadian networks including Shell
Recharge, FLO, ChargePoint, Circuit électrique, BC Hydro, EV Connect
Canada, and more, with compatible Tesla Superchargers being added
today. Access across the United States is also supported.

eRoute trip planning in the My BMW and MINI apps recommends
compatible stations along the route and enables drivers to send the
itinerary directly to the vehicle for seamless navigation and charging stops.
Expanding access with Tesla Superchargers and NACS.
Starting in 2026, all-new BMW models in Canada, such as the upcoming
iX3 and i3, will be factory-equipped with a built-in NACS port,
enabling direct access to Tesla Superchargers.
Existing BMW and MINI models with CCS ports must only use the
approved Lectron Vortex Plus NACS-to-CCS DC adapter to charge at NACS
stations. Once the availability of the adapter is added in-app
(Charging > Adapters > Add Adapter > “NACS (DC)”), compatible
NACS locations will be unlocked and appear in search results and routing.

Integration with Shell Recharge allows BMW and MINI drivers to start
a Supercharger session through the My BMW/MINI app. Drivers will see
in-app which stations are compatible, whether an adapter is required,
and where Magic Dock Superchargers (with CCS) are available.
Built for confidence: speed, coverage, and clarity.

Superchargers commonly provide 250–325 kW DC fast charging (station
and vehicle dependent). BMW vehicles automatically manage charging
speed for optimal performance based on state of charge and
temperature. Pricing, including any site-specific fees, is handled
seamlessly via Shell Recharge and appears in the app’s Charge History.
BMW Remote Software Upgrades (RSU) will enable NACS compatibility
features across most current BMW and MINI BEVs. With the exception of
the original BMW i3 (I01) and MINI Cooper SE (F56), all BEV models
will be Supercharger-compatible once software prerequisites are met.
The NACS RSU will roll out by model; customers will be notified in the
app and vehicle as updates become available.
How it works: effortless charging in a few steps.
- Set up Shell Recharge in the My BMW or MINI app: open the Charging
tile, select More…, then choose Shell Recharge under Services,
accept terms, add payment, and you’re ready. - Start a charge on site: open the Charging tile and tap “Charge
here” – the app uses GPS to identify the station, you select the
plug, agree and begin charging, and can stop the session from the
app as well. - Enable Plug & Charge where supported: enroll in Shell
Recharge; after enrollment, a Plug & Charge contract is sent to
the vehicle (up to 24 hours). In iDrive: Apps > Charging >
Plug & Charge > toggle ON. The Goodbye screen will indicate
when a Plug & Charge station is detected. - Using a NACS adapter (for CCS vehicles): attach the adapter firmly
to the connector, plug into the vehicle, and wait for charging to
initiate (up to 1 minute). The vehicle’s indicator will flash blue
once charging begins. To disconnect, stop the session in-app or at
the vehicle, then press the adapter release buttons to remove.
BMW: a trusted legacy, now supercharged for the EV era.
For over a century, BMW has engineered premium vehicles that
deliver joy in every journey. Today, that same commitment powers our
approach to electrification: connecting customers to the best
infrastructure with the most intuitive digital experience. By unifying
a broad network of Canadian and U.S. charging providers through Shell
Recharge – and by enabling access to NACS Superchargers – BMW is
making public charging more available, more transparent, and more
convenient than ever before.
Availability.
Shell Recharge integration in the My BMW and MINI apps was introduced
across Canada in March 2026.
From today, Supercharger access is now available via Shell Recharge
and Plug & Charge, as vehicles receive their necessary software
updates. The My BMW and MINI apps, as well as in-vehicle
notifications, will inform customers when access is ready for their
specific model.
The approved Lectron Vortex Plus adapter can be purchased via the manufacturer,
also listed in the My BMW and MINI apps. Warranty is provided by Lectron.
