Honda Confirms a Third-Generation Ridgeline, and Will Pause Current Production to Build It

Honda has confirmed that a third-generation Ridgeline is in development and will reach the market within two years. To make room for it, production of the current 2026 truck will pause later this year.

Confirming a successor while the outgoing truck is still on sale is a deliberate move. It tells buyers a replacement is coming, and it frames the halt in production as a changeover rather than a withdrawal from the midsize pickup segment.

Designed in California, engineered in Ohio, built in Alabama

The new Ridgeline was styled at Honda’s design studio in Southern California and engineered in Ohio. Assembly stays at Honda’s Alabama plant, which currently turns out the second-generation Ridgeline alongside the Passport, Pilot and Odyssey, using a mix of domestically and globally sourced parts.

Honda’s own description of the new truck is that it carries “even more rugged” styling and capability. That is design language rather than specification, and it is close to the only characterisation the company has offered so far. No powertrain details, dimensions, payload or towing figures have been released.

The Ontario thread in the story

The Canadian element runs through Alliston, Ontario, where Honda’s plant helped launch the original Ridgeline more than twenty years ago. That first truck was, as Honda notes, the industry’s first modern unibody midsize pickup — a car-like structure in a segment that had settled on body-on-frame construction.

“The third chapter of the Honda Ridgeline will continue its remarkable story with even more rugged styling and capability,” said Emile Korkor, assistant vice-president of Honda sales and marketing at Honda Canada, who singled out Alliston’s role in launching the model and described the Ridgeline as having held onto a distinct mix of capability, handling and innovation since.

It is worth being precise about what that means today: the Alliston reference is historical. Current Ridgeline production is in Alabama, and Honda has confirmed the next generation stays there.

What it means for Canadian buyers

The production pause is the part with near-term consequences. Once the line stops later this year, the supply of new 2026 Ridgelines becomes finite, and dealer stock will thin out over the months that follow. Anyone who specifically wants the current truck — because it suits them, or because a changeover year is a reasonable time to negotiate — is working against a clock rather than an open-ended supply.

Anyone inclined to wait should be clear about how little has actually been announced. “Within two years” is a wide window, and Honda has not confirmed a Canadian on-sale date, pricing, or any mechanical detail. A more rugged design also does not automatically mean a more capable truck; whether the next Ridgeline keeps the unibody layout that has defined it is exactly the question Honda has not yet answered.

The practical read is that this is a heads-up rather than a buying decision. There is enough here to know a replacement is coming and that the current truck’s availability is closing, and not nearly enough to judge whether the new one will be the better purchase.
