Key Powertrain Features
- 1.5-liter VTEC® turbocharged 4-cylinder engine makes 190 hp (SAE net @ 6,000 rpm)
- 179 lb.-ft. of torque (SAE net at 1,700-5,000 rpm) delivered across a broad range of operation
- Standard continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) specially tuned for quick response, with paddle shifters for optimum driver control
- Step Shift CVT programming simulates gear changes under hard acceleration for a linear feel
- Advanced all-wheel drive system improves handling performance
1.5-liter Turbo Engine
ADX delivers refined power and low-end torque from its turbocharged 1.5-liter VTEC® engine. Similar to the DOHC 1.5T used in Integra, the VTEC®-enhanced DOHC 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine produces 190 horsepower1 and 179 lb.-ft. of torque2. Peak torque occurs from 1700-5000 rpm, providing a quick punch off the line and out of tight corners.
The direct-injected turbocharged 4-cylinder engine utilizes a high-efficiency, high-response turbocharger; low pressure-loss turbocharger piping; and 4-2 exhaust port cylinder head to help maintain peak power over a broad range of rpm for incredible response. VTEC variable valve timing is used on the exhaust side of the twin-cam head. This helps improve exhaust efficiency and optimize valve overlap, efforts that contribute to improved fuel efficiency and lower the engine speed for peak torque. More details on the 1.5-liter turbo are available here.
Sport-Tuned Continuously Variable Transmission
A sport-tuned continuously variable transmission (CVT) elevates the sporty driving experience of ADX with paddle shifters, early downshift during braking and Step-Shift programming that simulates gear changes under hard acceleration. With a short final-drive ratio, the CVT provides excellent response, especially when accelerating from a stop.
Under acceleration, the CVT activates the Step-Shift function. The CVT is programmed to control engine speeds in “steps,” similar to a traditional automatic transmission, giving drivers a familiar linear audible cue for a better sense of acceleration. Drivers also can manually select gear ratios with the metal paddle shifters located on the steering wheel.
Automatic downshift control adds engine braking when going downhill and improves engine response during spirited driving. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the CVT selects an appropriate lower ratio, maintaining a higher engine speed. This creates stronger engine braking and improves engine response when acceleration resumes. The higher engine speed continues until the driver resumes a cruise or neutral throttle condition.
The G-Design CVT reduces the “rpm-led” feel of some CVTs, where the acceleration feel comes after the increase in engine speed. G-Design reduces this “rubber band effect” in the new ADX with increased engine torque and improved turbocharger response. The result is stronger acceleration at lower engine speeds, giving the engine more natural-feeling acceleration that follows the driver’s foot.
Advanced All-Wheel Drive
Available on all grades, an advanced all-wheel drive system improves handling performance as well as traction management in slippery conditions. The system can send more than 50% of torque to the rear wheels.
The advanced all-wheel drive system combines the conventional front-wheel-drive system with a compact transfer case that distributes torque via a propeller shaft to the rear drive assembly. The multi-plate clutch connects the propeller shaft to the rear differential, which is managed by an electric motor driving a hydraulic pump.
The Intelligent Control System activates the electric motor to actively apportion power based on road conditions, preemptively minimizing wheel spin before it happens by sending power to the rear wheels. The electric motor activating the hydraulic pump idles when not required, reducing drag within the system.
When starting on snow, for example, the system quickly sends power to the rear wheels, minimizing the potential for front wheel spin. The system also detects hill climb conditions, sending more torque to the rear wheels in cooperation with the Hill Start Assist feature. Hill Start Assist maintains brake pressure briefly after the brake pedal is released when the vehicle stops, giving the driver time to accelerate and smoothly resume motion.
Driveline noise is reduced by a torsional damper and a constant velocity joint that connects the propeller shaft to the rear differential.
Hill Descent Control
Increasing the capability of ADX is the Acura brand’s first Hill Descent Control system, which provides more control on steep or slippery declines of 7% or more. A unique feature in this class, Hill Descent Control operates with the press of a button on the center console, enabling the driver to select a speed between 2 and 12 mph using the brake or gas pedal. Once the pedal is released, ADX will maintain the set speed, allowing the driver to concentrate on steering for as long as Hill Descent Control is active. The driver adjusts speed using either the brake or gas pedal. Hill Descent Control will remain active until the system is shut off or the speed exceeds 12 mph.

Suspension Tuned for Drivers
A sport-tuned independent suspension, precise steering and powerful brakes help ADX deliver class-leading driving dynamics and engaging performance, along with a comfortable ride. Its long 104.5-inch wheelbase contributes to a smooth and stable ride. Its wide stance, with staggered front 62.6-inch and rear 63.2-inch tracks, adds stability.
For superior driving dynamics, ADX features a MacPherson strut front suspension attached to a lightweight aluminum front subframe with an efficient truss and rib structure that provides rigidity and stability.
Exceptional care was taken to reduce friction in the suspension and steering system to improve handling and ride comfort, reducing harsh impact shock and noise. A tempering process that heat-treats the lower ball joints on the front suspension reduces the surface pressure between the ball and resin ball seat. The front damper mount also uses a low-friction seat and optimizes the axis of the spring and damper.
Mounted on a rigid subframe, the multi-link rear suspension provides stable, yet agile handling. Harshness is minimized by a large rear compliance bushing with more damping force on the front end of the trailing arm. The bushings on the back side of the lower rear suspension arms increase ride comfort, while promoting better straight-line stability and turn-in.
Variable-Ratio Electric Power Steering
Dual-pinion electric power steering (EPS) provides excellent feedback, and its low-friction characteristics aid straight-line stability and intuitive response. The system provides substantially improved feel compared to a single-pinion system by using the physical steering input from the driver as well as from a supplemental electric motor. A non-contact torque sensor measures the driver’s steering effort, and an ECU determines how much electric motor assist to add, with the result being seamless, natural-feeling steering.
On ADX, the EPS system also features a variable gear ratio for comfortable responses near center and quicker, sportier feel with increasing steering angle. This yields intuitive response at all speeds for a sporty and confident character.
Powerful Brakes
ADX is equipped with large 12.3-inch diameter ventilated front brake rotors and 12.2-inch diameter solid rotors in the rear, incorporating Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist as standard equipment. The system provides a comfortable and refined feel at low speeds, with predictable, easy operation and reassuring brake performance in all conditions.
Integrated Dynamics System
Every ADX comes standard with Acura’s Integrated Dynamics System, which gives the driver the option of four distinct driving modes tuned for specific driving situations. The Integrated Dynamics System features Snow, Comfort, Normal and Sport modes, which control various parameters including steering assist, transmission and throttle response, Idle Stop and gauge color.
The ADX A-Spec with Advance Package adds a user-programmable Individual mode that enables the driver to customize the driving experience.
Snow Mode
Enhancing traction management in slippery conditions, Snow mode softens throttle response and adjusts the transmission and AWD system to suit low-traction environments. Idle stop and Active Sound Control are disabled.

Key Body Features
- Advanced global subcompact architecture
- Advanced body structure key to superior handling, ride quality and crash performance
- Extensive structural adhesive used throughout construction adds strength
- Aluminum front bumper beam reduces weight, with extensive use of high-strength steel to increase strength
Advanced Body Structure
Fundamental to the outstanding ride quality, handling and crash performance of ADX is its advanced global subcompact architecture and advanced body structure.
To increase strength, 62% of the body is constructed of high-tensile steel, including hot stamped steel on the door frames, windshield frame and B-pillar and high-strength steel in the door sills and body cross members. Not only does the application of these materials increase rigidity for improved handling and a quiet ride, it also improves crash safety performance (see Safety and Driver Assistive section below). The floor strength of ADX is enhanced via lattice frame members and by joining the front and rear ends of the center tunnel to the dashboard lower and rear crossmember.
Extensive use of structural adhesive is used throughout the body structure to add strength while reducing weight. The adhesive is applied where spot welds are performed, combining the strength of the weld and the broader surface area of the adhesive to increase the stiffness of the joint. This reduces the need for additional sheet metal thickness or welded-on reinforcements.
A lightweight aluminum front bumper beam features a cross-section that improves strength while minimizing the overall amount of material required, contributing to overall weight reduction.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering ™ (ACE™) Body Structure
ADX sets a new benchmark for both active and passive safety technology in the premium subcompact SUV class. ADX uses the latest version of the proprietary Acura Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, which is designed to help protect vehicle occupants in frontal collisions, including in angled frontal collisions, and improve crash compatibility between vehicles of varying sizes, such as an SUV and a small car. The front of the structure features a special upper member, windshield pillar, side frame and lower firewall structure designed to route crash energy around the cabin, especially in oblique impacts. More details on the ACE™ body structure are available here.
Advanced Airbag and Seatbelt Technologies
In a segment first, ADX uses next-generation driver and front passenger airbags specifically designed to reduce head rotation in a collision, especially an oblique collision. The driver’s airbag uses an innovative donut-shaped structure to cradle and hold the head, mitigating rotation and reducing the likelihood of brain injury.
On the passenger side, a three-chamber airbag design also used in integra achieves a similar result. The three chambers inflate separately, with the two outer chambers that extend above the main chamber designed to cradle the head and control rotation.
ADX further benefits from standard driver and front passenger knee airbags and rear outboard side impact airbags. Along with side curtain airbags and side impact airbags for both driver and front passenger, ADX features a total of 10 airbags.
Seatbelt technology includes outer lap belt pretensioners and load limiters on front seatbelts, engineered to help prevent chest injuries. In the rear, pretensioners are used in both outboard positions, along with load limiters. ADX also features a rear seatbelt reminder, which informs the driver if a rear seat occupant is not properly buckled up.
Pedestrian Protection
ADX also features multiple technologies designed to help prevent and mitigate pedestrian injuries through both collision mitigation and collision avoidance. The standard AcuraWatch™ suite of driver assistive and safety technologies has been engineered to detect pedestrians, warning the driver, and even applying the brakes to help prevent a collision.
Should a collision occur, the ADX front end features new approaches designed to mitigate pedestrian injuries, including a front bumper design intended to prevent or reduce lower leg fractures, and ligament injuries to the knee.
AcuraWatch™
The standard AcuraWatch™ suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies on ADX uses a single camera mounted behind the windshield, coupled with an exceptionally fast processor.
This single-camera system features a 100-degree field of view capable of detecting feature points of a target and recognizing attributes such as vehicles or pedestrians. With the use of the fast processor, the system measures distance and the lateral position of objects based on the change in the size of the target object, how long it took for the change to occur and speed of the vehicle. This enables the camera to recognize white lines, road boundaries such as curbs, other vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists and road signs.
In inclement weather, the system parameters allow operation even when the windshield wipers are operating at mid or high speeds, as long as the camera can detect objects. In addition, a heater prevents fogging of the windshield in front of the camera in cold weather. The system software also has been programmed to continue providing assistance even in foggy weather.
AcuraWatch™ functions include:
- Blind spot information (BSI)13: Using millimeter-wave radar installed on the rear corners of the vehicle, it can detect vehicles approaching from the rear, signaling the driver with a visual and audible warning. The warning distance has been increased to further improve the detection performance of overtaking vehicles. The BSI13 range extends to approximately 80 feet behind ADX to provide advanced warning in certain conditions.
- Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS)11: LKAS reduces the need for steering correction movements and driving effort. LKAS is linear with natural feeling steering assist, line tracing in corners and resistance to crosswinds.
- Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)6: CMBS6 can apply different levels of autonomous braking action to help reduce vehicle speed and eventual collision forces, and therefore to help reduce the severity of a collision.
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW, integrated with CMBS™)9: when the system determines a collision with a detected vehicle is possible, visual and audible alerts from the FCW system prompt the driver to take corrective actions.
- Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow (ACC with LSF)10: Adaptive Cruise Control offers natural brake feel and quick reactions to changes in traffic. It also responds quickly when changing into an open lane from behind a slower car, and when a car moves out of the lane ahead.
- Traffic Jam Assist (TJA): Works in conjunction with ACC and LKAS to provide lane-keeping functions at speeds below 45 mph all the way to a standstill, such as in congested traffic.
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)7: identifies various road markings, including solid or dashed painted lane lines, Botts’ dots and cat’s-eye markers to find the edge of the road and uses steering force to keep the vehicle from departing the lane or roadway.
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW)* integrated with RDM7: operates at speeds from 40 to 93 mph and is designed to alert the driver if the vehicle is leaving a detected lane without the turn signal being activated.
- Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR)12: camera automatically recognizes traffic speed limit signs, displaying the information on the digital meter immediately after the sign is passed.
- Rear Cross Traffic Monitor: works in conjunction with the BSI13 radar sensors to enhance driver confidence when backing up. The system uses a pair of blind-spot radar units located in the rear bumper corners. When Reverse is selected and a vehicle approaching from the side is detected, arrows indicate the approaching vehicle’s direction on the 10.2-inch center display’s rear camera16 image. Simultaneously, an audible warning is emitted if cross-traffic is approaching from either side.
Additional Driver Assistive Technologies
The Multiview Camera System included with the A-Spec with Advance Package uses four exterior cameras to provide a 360-degree “bird’s eye” view of the space immediately around the vehicle through the 10.2-inch display in a split-screen to the right of the rear-view backup camera display. Using a button on the end of the wiper stalk, drivers can select different camera views to provide a choice of six different angles. In Reverse, drivers can only select wide and normal rear camera16 views; front, left and right side, and top view are selectable when the vehicle is not in Reverse.
The ADX A-Spec with Advance Package also includes four sonar sensors on the front and rear fascia, which can detect objects and help the driver avoid collisions at low speeds. These sonar sensors also enable Low-Speed Braking Control. If an object is detected by the sonar sensors, Low Speed Braking Control can automatically apply the brakes (AEB), and reduce power if the driver mistakenly applies the throttle, lowering the likelihood of low-speed collisions.
Every ADX includes a Driver Attention Monitor, which continually monitors and assesses driver behavior behind the wheel to help determine if the driver is becoming inattentive. If it detects fatigue, the driver is alerted by a coffee cup icon and a 4-level bar graph on the dash. As the driver’s attention drops, fewer and fewer bars are illuminated, and when it drops to two, the system displays a message inviting the driver to take a break. If the driver continues driving and the graph drops to the lowest level of one bar, a beeper sounds and the steering wheel vibrates, prompting the driver to pay closer attention or take a rest break.
A Rear Seat Reminder also is standard. A reminder appears on the driver information interface and an alert will sound when the car is turned off and notifies drivers to check the rear seating area for children, pets or other precious cargo when exiting the car.

[2] 179 lb.-ft. @ 1,700-5,000 rpm (SAE net)
[3] LEV4-ULEV50 (Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle) trims as certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).
[4] 26 city/31 highway/28 combined mpg rating for 2WD trims. 25 city/30 highway/27 combined mpg rating for AWD trims. Based on 2025 EPA mileage ratings. Use for comparison purposes only. Your mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle, driving conditions and other factors.
[5] Based on SAE J1100 cargo volume measurement standard plus, where applicable, floor space between seating rows and seats in their forward-most and upright position.
[6] CMBS cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. System designed to mitigate crash forces. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[7] Road Departure Mitigation only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use and can apply mild steering torque to assist driver in maintaining proper lane position and/or brake pressure to slow the vehicle’s departure from a detected lane. RDM may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[8] LDW only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use. LDW may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[9] FCW cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. FCW does not include a braking function. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[10] ACC with Low-Speed Follow cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed, and other factors. ACC should not be used in heavy traffic, poor weather, or on winding roads. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[11] LKAS only assists driver in maintaining proper lane position when lane markings are identified without a turn signal in use and can only apply mild steering torque to assist. LKAS may not detect all lane markings; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[12] TSR cannot detect all traffic signs and may misidentify certain signs. Accuracy will vary based on weather and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for complying with all traffic regulations.
[13] The systems are not a substitute for your own visual assessment before changing lanes or backing up, and may not detect all objects, or provide complete information about conditions, behind or to the side of the vehicle. System accuracy will vary based on weather, size of object, and speed. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.
[14] VSA is not a substitute for safe driving. It cannot correct the vehicle’s course in every situation or compensate for reckless driving. Control of the vehicle always remains with the driver.
[15] For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge. Do not rely solely on the monitor system. Please see your Honda dealer for details.
[16] Always visually confirm that it is safe to drive before backing up; the rearview camera display does not provide complete information about all conditions and objects at the rear of your vehicle.
