Canada’s aftermarket business management sector is set to experience significant growth with the introduction of a new program by the Automotive Business School of Canada (ABSC) at Georgian College in Barrie, Ontario. The program, designed specifically for Canadian professionals, addresses previous limitations requiring Canadians to seek education in the U.S.
Jason Dale, Executive Director of ABSC, shared that the school has spent years designing this initiative, focused on strengthening ties within the aftermarket industry. The program is tailored for entry to mid-level managers and aims to elevate their management skills over a streamlined course of seven modules, culminating in a strategic five-year plan for each participant.
This initiative expands Georgian College’s longstanding engagement with the automotive industry, dating back to its founding in 1986. Over the decades, the college has continually adapted its offerings to meet industry needs, emphasizing practical, locally relevant knowledge. This includes collaborations with sector leaders like JF Champagne from the Aftermarket Industries Association of Canada.
The full-time faculty at ABSC have crafted the curriculum to reflect the nuances of the Canadian market—from legislative requirements to unique regional practices, ensuring that the content is not only theoretical but also pragmatically applicable across the nation.

Further setting this program apart, Dale noted the distinct market conditions in Canada compared to the U.S., such as demographic and geographical sales data as well as the impact of varying weather conditions. The extensive preparatory work has led to a comprehensive educational package that promises profound professional development.
The course structure is flexible, requiring minimal onsite attendance in Barrie, with the bulk of the work conducted through distance learning. This allows participants to engage deeply with the material and apply it directly to their business environments, fostering immediate tangible outcomes.
The ABSC is scheduled to launch this essential Aftermarket Management Program in the Spring of 2024, promising to enrich professionals’ capabilities and, by extension, enhance the entire Canadian aftermarket sector.
For more information about the program, visit the ABSC website or listen to the detailed discussion on The Great Canadian Aftermarket Podcast, available on platforms like Spotify and Apple Podcasts. The podcast episode titled “Automotive Aftermarket Management Education Comes of Age in Canada” delves into the motivations behind the course and its expected impact on the industry.
This educational initiative not only promises to fill a critical gap in domestic professional education but also positions ABAS at the forefront of Canada’s aftermarket industry training.
