BMW has issued a recall for 78,381 vehicles across Canada due to a risk of a short-circuit that could potentially lead to fires. According to the company, the affected models are equipped with engine ventilation hoses that may fail, causing oil leaks onto engine components and igniting a fire.
The recall encompasses a range of models including some versions of the 3 Series, 5 Series, X3, X5, and Z4, produced between 2006 and 2013. BMW has advised vehicle owners to watch for warning signs such as smoke from the engine compartment, a plastic burning smell, or the illumination of the engine warning light. Owners of the implicated models will be notified by mail, and BMW dealerships will replace the faulty components at no cost to the vehicle owners.
Vehicle owners can also check if their vehicle is affected by entering their VIN on BMW’s recall information website. This proactive step underscores BMW’s commitment to safety and customer service. BMW has not reported any accidents or injuries related to this issue thus far.
For further information or to schedule a repair, owners can contact their local BMW dealership or BMW customer service.
