  • Full synthetic motor oil developed in partnership between Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) and trusted partner Phillips 66
  • Offered in 6 viscosity grades, Formula R is now available for street and track applications through Honda and Acura dealers beginning June 15
  • Inspired from racing, Formula R is designed to deliver maximum protection, durability and performance in modern Honda and Acura engines

Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US), is releasing its first-ever consumer engine oil line available at Honda and Acura dealers starting June 15. HRC Formula R is a new line of full synthetic passenger car engine oils developed to bring HRC technology from the track to everyday driving. Crafted from the highest-quality U.S.-sourced base oils and enhanced with an advanced additive system, HRC Formula R is designed to deliver superior wear protection, long-lasting durability, and uncompromising performance in Honda and Acura engines.

Today’s turbocharged, direct-injected engines place extreme demands on engine oil. Formula R is formulated to meet or exceed API SQ and ILSAC GF-7/GF7A standards, the latest gasoline engine oil performance standards introduced in 2025 to meet the demands of modern engines and upcoming EPA regulations. These standards are designed to improve fuel efficiency, reduce emissions, improve engine protection, and have stricter limits on wear.

While fully capable on the track, Formula R was developed as a premium oil for everyday driving. Its advanced corrosion inhibitors even provide added benefits for modern Honda hybrid owners, while maintaining backward compatibility with older performance engines.

“HRC Formula R oil brings true championship‑grade performance to our customers,” said Rob Ray, general manager of Performance Parts, HRC US. “We’ve trusted Phillips 66 on our ARX‑06 GTP IMSA race cars, and that same race‑proven technology now lives in every bottle. We are excited to now offer the stability and protection we demand in racing available at dealerships nationwide. Honda and Acura owners can now request to upgrade to Formula R at their next oil change.”

Product Details

  • Proven High Performance Technology: Engineered under extreme motorsports conditions, every bottle carries the DNA of motorsport innovation including 0W-40, the same formulation used in the championship-winning IMSA Civic Type R TCR race car. Formula R’s motorsports testing ensures excellent thermal stability with high-temperature viscosity stability to resist breakdown and low-temperature performance for fast oil circulation at start-up to reduce wear on cold starts.
  • American Honda-Approved Confidence: Fully compatible with Honda and Acura service programs, HRC Formula R oil gives dealership a premium, motorsports-inspired full synthetic option within the Honda engine oil portfolio. Ideal for customers who want the highest level of protection and performance for their vehicles.
  • Viscosities Offered: HRC Formula R is available in six OEM-relevant viscosity grades to support a broad range of Honda and Acura vehicles:
    0W-16, 0W-20, 0W-40, 5W-20, 5W-30, 10W-30
  • Engine Protection: Formula R oil helps protect against low-speed pre-ignition, rust and bearing corrosion, which is critical for smaller, high-output engines. It also help provide protection for turbochargers, timing chains and valve trains, helping to extend engine life under sever service conditions.
  • Deposit and Sludge Control: The full synthetic oil reduces sludge, varnish and piston deposits, keeping components cleaner for smoother, more efficient operation over the oil’s service life.
  • Improves Efficiency: Its low-friction formulation reduces energy losses, supporting better fuel efficiency without compromising protection.
  • Engineered for Turbocharged and Emissions-Controlled Engines: It is specifically formulated for modern engines by protecting high-speed turbocharger components from wear, oxidation and deposit formation. Formula R’s balanced additive chemistry also protects emission control system catalysts and oxygen sensors. In addition, Formula R resists foaming with stable oil films and consistent hydraulic performance even under high engine speeds and loads.
